Discover Your True Colours - Tips for an Autumn palette
An Autumn palette is no doubt the most obvious to distinguish in the four seasons. Just think of Autumn leaves in an array of warm hues and you're half way there. An Autumn skin tone can often find pieces to suit very easily and the ability to wear both bright and muted shades makes their choices abundant. The key to styling with this colour palette is your skin tone.
The skin tone of a natural Autumn is warm. However, Autumn often plays a part in our other seasons too, such as Summer, so we can think of these as 'gentle Autumn' but if you feel that you can wear more vivid colours a 'golden Autumn' may flow into the Spring tones. Striking colours that are attributed to Winter colours will look amazing on someone who is a 'striking Autumn'.
An Autumn palette is all about glowing warmth and muted beauty. Exotic, spicy and mysterious, an Autumn will look best in rich or muted shades such as camel, beige, olive, orange, gold, dark brown and even some greys will bring out a healthy gorgeous glow for you.
Autumn Skin
You will have a golden undertone from ivory, creamy peaches or even copper toned with freckles. Often, unlike a Spring whose cheeks are rosy, an Autumn skin tone may need a hint of blush in corals and oranges to bring you alive.
Autumn Hair
As a child, you may have had golden blonde lochs that have darkened as you've matured. Most often touched with red or gold highlights, a true Autumn (natural hair colours) can vary from auburn to copper, strawberry blonde, ginger and even dark golden blonde to a warm brown. Many brunettes also fall into the Autumn category and they may show warmth and a hint of redness in sunlight.
Autumn Eyes
From dark topaz, golden brown or green eyes with an orange streak, Autumn eye colouring will feature flecks or gold or brown and even black. Clear green, like glass or deep olive are also part of this colouring. Hazel is the most common of colours that we generally associate with this palette, but there are a multitude of combinations.
Points to consider with an autumn colouring
- Look for shades with a warm (yellow) undertone that will enhance the glow in your complexion
- Avoid clear and bright colours and opt for earthy and warm shades
- Straight black and bright clear white should be avoided and choices such as ivory and dark charcoal should be considered in place
- Pastels and blue tones may make you feel washed out so should be avoided as these are cool based and work against your warm skin tone
- Choose navy blues, olives and golden browns to accent your outfits
- If you love a brighter palette, look for shades of orange, lime, chartreuse and orange based reds, such as rust and paprika
