Discover Your True Colours - Tips for a Spring palette

One of the biggest joys in finding out our own personal colour palette is the freedom that it brings. Using these specific colours, you will spend less time and energy shopping, and you will have more confidence than ever because you look your very best. Shopping will suddenly become quick and easy, knowing what to seek out and what to leave on the rack.

Each season of spring, summer, autumn and winter has its own unique colour palette. Unfortunately, when it comes to clothing, the vast majority of people will often purchase whatever is in fashion colour-wise, as opposed to what really suits them.

Some people are their most beautiful in the clear, true primary colours or the icy colours of winter, while others are flattered more by the softer shades of summer. Autumns come to life in the rich, warm tones the season evokes.

With so much information at hand, we will first dive into what makes a spring colouring and the best colours for her.

Spring

The most delicate of the four colour palettes. Clear, sharp colours enliven your features and make you come alive! Everything about a Spring is vibrant, colourful and often exaggerated. A Spring colouring will have a warm skin tone, which is generally light to ivory in your complexion. Your a natural golden blonde, auburn or strawberry red head and will most likely have freckles and rosy cheeks. With a glowing skin, sometimes like peaches and cream, you can't help but easily blush. Your eyes will be light blue or green and be very clear and sparkly.

The colours of spring reflect vigour and fresh new growth drawing strong splashes of colours against yellow undertones (your warm complexion). The colours of spring are bright and daring and definitely not all shy pastels. Fabrics can also be uplifting for our seasonal pallets and a spring looks best in crisp linen, gabardines and polished cotton.

Points to consider with a spring colouring

  • White is never just white! and each hue or tone is better suited to a particular palette. A spring will look best in warm whites such as Ivory or off white. Beiges that are clear and warm, from light beige to camel also look great.
  • Browns for springs start at the gold end of the scale from a golden tan through to a milk chocolate, but avoid going too deep as this can over-power your brightness! Gold is perfect from a buff to a golden yellow as long as they are bright and clear.
  • Warm greys are the key. Look for shades that have a yellowish base to remain flattering to the skin tone and opt for lighter colours.
  • Light bright navy blue is the choice over black for spring - darker tones can easily age the spring features.
  • Opting for colours like peach, apricot, salmon and peachy pinks are beautiful as are aqua. clear turquoise, true blue, light blue and periwinkle. Violet in a light to medium shade are vibrant and fresh.
  • Light Orange and bright coral as well as clear red are perfect options - just remember to avoid reds with a blue undertone.

Once you have decided on which pallet is yours, you will also discover that only very few will be definite seasons and you can also 'flow' into other seasons. This simply means that your completion, eye and hair colour show characteristics of complimentary seasons. The great news is that it also opens up a larger colour palette to select from!

The colour swatches above are indicative only, but we can definitely see how effective they can be when working in our wardrobe. A very simple way to know if a colour is working for you is to understand if you are wearing a colour, or is it wearing you? Do you see your gorgeous face that is bright and fresh and then the colour? or do you just see colour? If you just see the colour, then unfortunately it's not for you. Try wearing this on the bottom half, or perhaps accessories if this is a colour you can't part with!
